Fridays On The Porch

Fridays around here are all about family. Friday is a special day, its the day that everyone looks forward too. We all have worked hard all week, whether it be at home or out in the world, and it all comes to an end on Fridays. It's time to sit on the porch for a while and unwind, just relax a bit. There is nothing like Fridays on the porch with family and friends. This has been a tradition in my family since I was a little girl. Every Friday around 6:00 or 7:00 we all, aunts, uncles, cousins, neighbors, friends and whoever else happen to stop by, would have dinner and sit on the porch. We just enjoy the evening, discuss the weeks events, and talk of memories from years past. Maybe this is a southern thing I am not sure, but it is something that I would not trade for anything in the world. It has given me roots which in turn have given me wings.... Many of life's problems have been solved on that old porch. So we continue our Fridays on the Porch tradition, no plans are ever made, no phone calls to remind anyone that it's Friday, no menus planned, we just end up on that old porch and sit awhile. It is a simple thing really! Some may think that there is nothing special about that old porch but how wrong they are. That old porch seems to bring out the best in people. There have been lessons taught, life long relationships started, marriages mended, and loved ones mourned on that old porch. I've learned many valuable lessons sitting on that porch swing talking to my sweet Daddy. There is nothing like sitting in the swing on a warm summer evening spending time with your loved ones. No distractions just spending time together. We always have dinner and there is always plenty for everyone. I'm not sure how we do it, never really thought about it much, but we have never ran out of food or not had a plate for anyone. Anybody is welcome to come and sit a spell, the more the merrier. Sometimes the old porch is busting at the seams and other times it feels empty, but there is always someone on the porch on Fridays. I hope to teach my children many life lessons on that same old porch. It's like a family member itself, very dear to my heart. I would love to hear about some of your family traditions or porch memories if you would be so kind to share. Thanks for stopping by and yall come back now!!!!

This is my dream porch.......

This is my front porch.... I have memories of my grandparents sitting here every evening after dinner....

Front view... I got that little rocking chair for free I think it's so sweet. The swing was made by a family member.

Today has been a really busy day. Trying to get a few things done outside in the yard and flower gardens before the rain comes in tomorrow. I did want to take just a few minutes to show you the before and after pics of my den. This room is one of things that I just knew I had to change when we moved here. The before pics look like an episode of "That 70's Show", however I absolutely loooove it now. My wonderful Mack Daddy husband did most of the work. He built the bookshelves on each side of the fireplace for me. He also did most of the painting. That was a JOB!!!! I know the pics are not the best quality and you may not be able to tell much from them but please bare with me, I am using a Kodak Easy Share camera. I hope to upgrade soon. Also I am still getting used to this blogging thing so please be patient. Hope you enjoy being a Looky Lou! Bye for now.............

My First Post!

Well as you can see this my very first post on my very first blog EVER. I am sooo excited, happy, thrilled, giddy.... you get the picture. I have been following a number of different blogs for the last year or so secretly longing to have one of my own all the while. So many things to consider though, like would I have time in between church, homeschooling , keeping house, so on and so on. Would I have anything to write about or would I even be able to do it? I'm not very computer savvy and even worse at writing. While pondering all of this I ran across a tutorial of sorts while visiting Everything Vintage. (http://jodielejeune.blogspot.com/) Jodie is the creator of this wonderful blog. I do not know her personally, however I love her blog and she just made it sound soooo easy. So I took the plunge and here I am. It really wasn't that hard at all, now mind you there were a few frustrating points where my wonderful, awesome, MACK DADDY husband had to guide me a bit, but for the most part I did it ALL BY MYSELF. YEP I GOT MY BIG GIRL PANTIES ON! WOO HOO...

So here's the Scoop... I'm married to an amazing christian man who loves me even when I do not deserve it. We have a blended family with 4 sweet, precious, and sometimes rowdy children. We live in Southeast Tennessee and love it. I've moved 4 times in the past two years and as we say in the south... I'm tard!!! We now live in my grandmothers old home and it is a work in progress. Moving here was like coming home to me in so many ways. Alot of my future post will be about this house we now call home. There are so many things that I want to change and just as many that I do not. When I 'm not posting about my home I will probably post about my homeschooling experiences, raising my children, crafting, baking/cooking, gardening, decorating, or just family in general. In other words my life, my story. Hopefully some of you will enjoy my little blog as much as I have enjoyed yours. If not that is ok too. This is a creative outlet for me and some what therapeutic (lol). So feel free to visit again be a looky lou read and browse a while. Hopefully some of you will share your thoughts and experiences with me as well. I will post a few photos of my family hope you enjoy.
